Path of Heroes

Dark Rituals
Season 1, Episode 10 [Finale]

Starring
Flypps, Lantern, Callum, Jasper

Recap
Picking up where Episode 9: Font of Evil left off, the party spies the approaching legion of goblins and rushes back to town to warn the populace. They manage to warn most of the town, but the goblins ransack the town for supplies. Lantern and Jasper notice something strange happening back at the cemetery, and head back while Flypps and Callum cover their exit.

Upon arriving at the cemetery, they discover that the newly opened chamber is guarded by a contingent of goblin soldiers, and a ghastly purple light is emanating from the pit. Jasper devises a plan to reanimate a small army of zombies to distract the guards while the party investigates. They discover that a group of cultists (possibly demon worshipers) is causing the bile-soaked earth filling the pool to react. They attempt to disrupt the ritual, but it is too late – an enormous geyser of infused bile erupts into the sky, causing it to rain down as far as the eye can see. After the ritual is complete, the goblin horde scatters into the forest.

The party returns to town after determining that in this form, the bile will not harm exposed flesh. They head to the inn, where the Great War veterans sit down with them to discuss some distressing news.

Season 1, Episode 9

Starring
Flypps, Lantern, Callum, Jasper

Recap
Flypps, Lantern, and Callum arrive in Ironthorn to find that Jasper has been investigating strange occurrences in the local cemetery – graves and tombstones will go missing, only to return the next morning. They set up a stake out in the cemetery, and discover that the grave dirt is animating and heading into one of the nearby mines. Flypps polymorphs Jasper into a raccoon and remains in the cemetery to keep watch for any further activity while the rest of the party investigates the mine.

The party discovers that the earthen creatures are excavating a chamber containing a giant pool of Bile of Esperatch. A fight ensues after Jasper drops a beetle into the pool – it transforms into a much larger beetle-like monster and attacks, drawing the attention of the earthen creatures. Lantern collapses the roof of the chamber to fill the pool, and the party defeats the remaining creatures.

As they climb out of the chamber and into the cemetery, they see a legion of goblins emerging from the surrounding forest.

Flypps, Lantern, Callum

Recap
Jasper and Tyran’kai depart from Dar’Danel to take care of some personal matters. Flypps and Lantern hear a rumor from some of the merchants that a few elders in the neighboring town of Ironthorn are veterans of the Last Great War, and may know something about “Esperatch.” They sign on as guards for a caravan bound for ironthorn, and find Callum wandering the road along the way.

The first night on the road, they are ambushed by a goblin raiding party, who attempt to steal some of the provisions. The group fights them off, but the other guards were slain by arrows. They take one of the goblins as a prisoner for interrogation – the goblin speaks in a strange tongue, and taunts Callum with references to “the masters.” Callum walks off, but the goblin breaks free of his bonds and attacks him, only to be stabbed by Callum’s dagger. The goblin melts into Bile of Esperatch and explodes over Callum, who seemingly absorbs the substance and develops a mysterious tattoo-like symbol on his arm.

The rest of the trip passes by without incident, and the trio arrives in Ironthorn.

Flypps, Lantern, Tyran’kai, Sarac, Jasper

Recap
After a brief stop in Greymere, Flypps, Lantern, and Tyran’kai rendezvous with Sarac and Jasper in the city of Acanthus. Known for its great library, Lantern surmised that it would be the best place to search for more information about the mysterious black liquid. Sarac acquires traveling papers after being deputized by Flypps.

The group arrives at the library to find a disturbing scene – everyone is dead, torn apart by some beast. Sarac finds that one of the librarians in the foyer is still barely alive, and manages to stabilize him. He explains that a drakkenvar, a beast from stories designed to frighten children, has attacked the library and killed everyone. The group discovers that the beast has also destroyed the sections of the library containing tomes related to their search, save for one tome that describes a similar creature as a servant of Nahkriin the Boar, deity of Vengeance.

After a brief battle, the group kills the beast, which transforms into a suit of armor. Sarac takes the armor to the Temple of Koore to have it cleansed – meanwhile, Jasper meets with one of the priests to atone for his sins. The group is able to conduct more research in the meantime, discovering only a few scant references to something known as the “Bile of Esperatch.”

The group runs into the Black Knight and later meets Sir Roderick of Harrowhelm, a knight that is competing in the tournaments.
